Following last week’s announcement, when the Romanian cycling community learned that our country will host the Balkan MTB XCM Championship for the first time, the national competition calendar is enriched as of today with another major event – the Balkan Downhill Championship, taking place on July 24–25, 2025, as part of the Up To Postăvaru event in Poiana Brașov, organized by Kronstadt Cycling.
The event will bring to the start line some of the most valuable athletes from Balkan countries, confirming Romania’s position as a relevant destination on the map of international cycling competitions.
Romania thus becomes the host of this regional event for the fifth time, after previously organizing the 2018 Balkan Cup in Sinaia, the 2022 and 2023 Balkan DHI Championships, also within the Up To Postăvaru event, and the 2024 Balkan DHI Championship at Cheile Grădiștei.
This year’s edition of Up To Postăvaru is also included in the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) international calendar, Class 1, and will certainly attract riders from outside the Balkan region as well.

The event will contribute to promoting sport in Romania, active tourism, and the country’s image at an international level, attracting athletes, teams, officials, and supporters from across the Balkan region. At the same time, the competition will offer Romanian athletes the opportunity to compete on home soil in an important championship.
It is also worth mentioning that in 2025, Romania was among the strongest countries at the Balkan DHI Championship held in Bulgaria. Our country won two gold medals through Remus Bonta and Matei Huțanu, and two silver medals through Ilinca Neagoe and Ștefan Banea. At the same event, Matei Huțanu recorded the fastest overall time.
